MOUNTBATTEN WAY
LIVING ROOM
A warm and cosy contemporary living room.
-
My client came to me as they wanted a room refresh on their living room. Whilst it was fairly modern, and well cared for, the room lacked colour and tactile qualities such as cushions, artwork and nice curtains.
-
They recently had a fireplace installed into the room, which meant the fireplace surround was situated in a central position in the room. With the room being long and narrow, this small 1.5m fireplace felt disproportioned to the rest of the room.
-
By extending the wood cladding out either side of the fireplace and coour matching the paint on the fireplace surround we created a more impactful focal point into the living room.
We changed the wall lights to a more asymmetrical layout and chose fixtures to compliment their existing globe flush pendants.
To add more light into the room we changed the lined curtains to sheers, and took them full width of the room to create the illusion of a wider window. We changed the internal doors to a reeded glass finish in matching black colour to compliment the new external door we fitted in the kitchen.
Their existing furniture remained, and we updated the cushions to a more considered scheme that complimented the new wallpaper and colour palette on the walls. We added in an oversized rug that helped zone the primary sofa, and added textured artwork to the walls for points of interest.
We removed the big heavy sideboard to allow for more floorspace around the smaller sofa and added in a metal console behind the sofa for the table lamp and sculpture.
