LITTLEFIELD GROVE

LIVING ROOM

A cosy family living room with the focal point of the garden and fireplace.

  • With more and more people working from home, my homeowner came to me needing my help to utilise the spaces within their home more effectively. The dining room and 5th bedroom are currently being used as offices, which meant the only dining space they had was in the kitchen.

My homeowner had already bought a beautiful red corner sofa with footstool, and had invested in a lovely big TV, however the position of these really didn't fit well in the space.

They wanted a scheme that worked with the sofa, but allowed me a fairly open brief in terms of the colour and design for the space.

  • The living room was 8.4m x 4m, and yet even with all that space the furniture orientation felt awkward and didn't flow. The original position for the TV meant that the view of the garden was lost, and the back of the sofa was facing the patio doors.

By reducing the length of the window, we were able to add in a stud wall with pocket door and mount the TV to this wall on both sides. Giving a TV viewing point in the living room, and in the dining room.

The pocket door was included so to avoid any loss of floor space in either room. With it neatly tucking away inside the wall, this maximised the space in both the rooms.

  • Using the colour "Silt" by Little Greene gave me a mid tone back drop to lift with tones of ochre, red and terracotta. Not grey, not green, but somewhere in between mean't that this colour was not competing for attention and allowed all of the other design elements to be the star of the show.

By wrapping the colour onto the ceiling, walls and woodwork, created a lovely warm embrace of colour without feeling too dark. I used a off white tropical wallpaper behind the sofa as a focal point to the room so that it created a synergy of design between the dining room and living room upon entry.

Using plants and textiles, I wove more green into the scheme to naturalise the space. This connected the space back to the garden and made it feel calm and relaxing.

“We wouldn't hesitate to work with Spruce Interiors again.”

"Sarah is an excellent project manager, skilled at coordinating multiple tradespeople throughout the project. She ensured everyone knew exactly what they were doing, where, and when. Sarah is very hands-on, and ensured she was available by phone or on-site to quickly address and resolve any issues that arose during the project.

We were thoroughly impressed with every contractor involved in our installation. Their communication, workmanship, reliability, and service was outstanding across the board."
