CANNON STREET
BATHROOM
A contemporary twist on a traditional Victorian style bathroom.
-
As a family bathroom, for a busy family of 4 this space had to also accomodate the washing machine and tumble dryer. My client wanted a light and bright space, that was adult and uplifting. She wanted to pay homage to the age of the property with a traditional bathroom whilst giving it a contemporary twist.

With all plumbing positions fixed, I worked with the existing layout. All first fix plumbing was in position I was unable to change the orientation of the washing machine cabinet so my design had to work around the limiations of the space. Spruce Interiors design and management service included a full tile design for floors and walls, with specification for the bathroom suite and the design of the doors for the built in cabinet.

With a light grey pattern floor, and oversized marble tiles positioned on all wall, the design utilised a simple gloss grey tile in a herringbone pattern to create a feature of the bath. Mixing matt black with chrome taps gave the space a traditional feel but with a contemporary twist, which is what my client wanted from the space. Using a soft grey blue paint on the walls harmonised with the chrome taps and marble tiles.
To house the washing machine and tumble dryer, I designed a cupboard with central hinging doors so to overcome the narrow gap between the washing machine and sink area. These were sprayed in my workshop, with a marble effect wallpaper being decoupaged onto them, and then a final clear matt lacquer being sprayed over the top to waterproof the vinyl paper.
