CAYTHORPE ROAD

BEDROOM

A bachelor pad style bedroom that feels like a hotel.

  • To create a bachelor pad style bedroom with a twist of contemporary hotel design and comfort. My client needed a full furniture pack with all lighting, textiles, and styling accessories. Having a large smart TV and air-con in the bedroom were the two major important elements my client wanted me to consider, so these elements became the focal point for the bedroom. Spending lots of time working abroad, it was important that this room helped my client sleep and relax.

  • The floor plan for the furniture was very much dictated by the window and electrical layout in the room so whilst the bed position hadn’t changed much, changing the space and size of the furniture around it helped the room to feel better proportioned.

  • The long narrow nature of this room meant that my design should feature layers of colour and texture to break up the colour palette and add interest to the long lonely wall behind the bed. To add storage I off-centred the chest of drawers and placed the armchair on an angle. To balance this I wrapped the wood cladding into the corner and off-centred its finishing position so to balance the painted wall surface area either side. Using texture as my brief, I introduced layers of linen on the bedding and light fittings, to help the room feel more comfortable and homely.

  • To blend the original air conditioning unit with the TV, I created a stud wall that was just slightly deeper than the wall hung vanity unit so that the slatting detail in the wood blended from one surface into the other. These linear details were mirrored in the radiator, wall panelling and vanity unit in a vertical orientation so to make the ceilings feel taller. To hide the air-con unit, I created an MDF cabinet with a lift off door and open area at the bottom so that the unit is still able to circulate the air in the room whilst being a more discreet feature in the room.
