DINING ROOM
A sophisticated space to entertain guests and connect with the garden.
-
To create a space that the homeowner would be able to entertain in, and feel a sense of pride when having people over to visit. The room was to include a sofa area, TV and dining table however the style and position of this was open to my creative interpretation. The client wanted to keep the room grey but was open to accents of other colours.

Before my client had it laid out with the sofa’s in the orangery area, and dining table on entry of this space meaning the you had to walk around furniture and fight with natural light when viewing the TV. By switching the zones, I was able to create a TV nook on entry as this was naturally the darkest spot in the room. This allowed the dining table to be positioned under the orangery window, and by choosing a round table this helped the room to feel more organic and comfortable to navigate.

With the kitchen adjoining in an L Shape to the dining room and snug area, the colour palette had to compliment the existing grey kitchen. Although my clients brief was grey in this room, I felt it important to add another colour to the palette to help lift the grey and add warmth to the space. This was achieved by adding white, green and walnut to the scheme which helped add depth and texture to the space. To help the room feel more cohesive, I used a darker shade of grey on the walls in the dining room as a contrast against the mid grey in the kitchen. This darker grey was wrapped on all walls and windows, using the same tone in the linen curtains to add a softness to the space. In the kitchen, I used an off white grey and white curtains to contrast against the mid grey kitchen which allowed the rooms to feel different even though they were connected within an open plan space.

Layers of slatted wood and concrete effect wallpaper create the perfect backdrop for the luscious green velvet sofa and complimentary walnut furniture. With the big patio doors and window I wanted to bring the outside in, so the use of greenery and layers of linen, upholstery fabric and textiles with accents of green were also sourced to connect the space and make it feel more grounded.
