CHARLBURY ROAD

BEDROOM

Bespoke wardrobe design utilising space under the eaves.

  • My client came to me after gaining the permissions needed by the council for an attic conversion. By using the smallest room of their 3 bedroom detached property, the architect added a second staircase that rose to the second floor attic space. With a very limited head space of 2.1m the orientation of the furniture was very limited so to ensure there was adequate head space to move around the bed.

  • With sloping ceilings, and space into the eaves to add storage, the design for this room was very complex so to ensure that the homeowners had enough storage for taller items such as dresses and shirts, and lots of drawer space for folded clothes. With an adjoining en-suite, it was important to me that both the rooms were connected by colour so that it feels like you are in one space.

  • To create a harmonious feeling int he space I designed the wardrobes with a handless push latch feature to ensure that no handles catch on clothing as you walk past. These long narrow linear details were colour matched to the wall and ceiling colour so that the colour gently hugs the room and blends the furniture into the walls. The focal point in the room uses a punchy teal with accents of ochre and coral to add drama and personality to the room. The homeowner also wanted somewhere to sit and do her makeup, and a long mirror so finding space for this within the room was really important to ensure it still functioned as an adult bedroom.

“We asked Sarah for an adult friendly room with lots of built in storage and she delivered exactly what we wanted and more. The room feels so welcoming and relaxing. We love the cleverly designed storage which is very spacious and yet looks so neat. Sarah’s attention to detail brought beautiful touches and the big fan above the bed really sets it all off.”
