ENSUITE BATHROOM

A black and brass en-suite with reflective surfaces.

  • Working with a 16 year old client was a new experience for me, but one that his parents really encouraged to ensure that he had a bathroom space he could grow into and love for many years to come. When I started discussing plans for his en-suite it became clear that he really loved a dark and moody space, and absolutely loved the idea of a black toilet. So the design evolved from there.

  • In a small en-suite like this, keeping this room feeling bright was really important to me. Using reflective surfaces was key in ensuring that the black didn’t totally absorb all the light and make it feel gloomy. The ceiling was painted in Lamp Black by Little Greene in a mid sheen finish to ensure that it repelled the moisture, as well as reflected the light.

The vanity unit, fittings and lights were all specified in brass to bring that contrast and warmth to the space. The mirror is backlit so that it reflects light onto the textured black glass mosaics behind it, to ensure that even in the evening the en-suite still felt well lit.
